Galapagos Master
The Master the Galapagos 7 nights cruise visits the Galápagos Islands. These are an Ecuadorian archipelago of volcanic islands straddling the equator about 970 km west of continental Ecuador. The Galapagos are a UNESCO World Heritage site, an official Ecuadorian province, an Ecuadorian National Park as well as a biological marine reserve. You may wonder what all this fuss is about, but we can assure you that these islands have earned all of these titles. Firstly, these 18 islands and 100 islets are world-renowned for their vast endemic and unique wildlife, which were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. His observations and collections in the Galapagos contributed to the famous ‘Darwin Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection’. Few people are granted the opportunity of diving these pristine waters and no place on Earth will boast such a variety of underwater sightings. Your underwater adventures will encompass everything from whales to nudibranchs and much, much more. The islands are best known for amazing shark diving and you will generally have a chance to encounter silky sharks, the famous Galapagos shark and an abundance of schooling hammerheads. Your Master the Galapagos 7 nights trip will be filled with memories to last you a lifetime and your experience may be challenging, but the rewards will be unforgettable.

However, weather and sea conditions will play a factor in determining the number of days and dives you are able to spend at these locations. To allow guests to explore the Galapagos to its fullest, Master Liveaboards organise two island tours as part of the itinerary: • North Seymour Island where we watch iguanas, blue-footed boobies and other bird and land life. • Highlands of Santa Cruz – Charles Darwin Station to visit the giant land tortoise Your Cruise Director will schedule 3 or 4 dives per day except on the days when land tours are offered when there will only be 2 dives scheduled in the morning.

Minimum dive certification and experience: Diving in the Galapagos can be challenging, even for experienced divers. There are often tough conditions with strong currents and reduced visibility due to an influx of nutrients at certain dive sites which make the diving unsuitable for entry level divers or those who have not dived in similar conditions before. • Mandatory, minimum certification: PADI Advanced Open Water, or equivalent • Minimum number of logged dives: 50

    Destination Information

    Galapagos Islands

Situated in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Ecuador, and straddling the equator is the world’s most unique and biologically distinguished archipelago – the Galápagos Islands.

There is an endless array of natural wonders to uncover, both above and below the water. As these islands have never been connected to a continent, the vast majority of species that you find here are endemic. Additionally, given that there are no large mammals on the islands, the lack of predation has resulted in animals being almost inherently tame and approachable. The protection afforded in being declared a marine reserve, a National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site has contributed to this lack of instinctual fear.

Some of the more well-known endemic species that you can expect to see are the Galápagos giant tortoise, marine iguana (the only sea-faring lizard in the world), Galápagos penguin (the sole penguin species in the Northern Hemisphere), Galápagos sea lion, flightless cormorant, and red-footed and blue-footed boobies, among many others.
