Wakatobi is located in a remote corner of Indonesia, in South East Sulawesi. Interestingly the name “Wakatobi” is an acronym of the four main Tukangbesi Islands: Wangi-wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia, and Binongko. There are a total of 143 islands in this region, however, only 7 of these islands are inhabited. The majority of the population in this gorgeously remote part of the world are part of the Bajau community, renowned for their nomadic sea-faring way of life.
The islands are home to flourishing ecosystems and natural marvels. Sandy beaches framed by towering palm trees, mysterious cave systems, bustling mangroves, luscious forests and stunning colourful coral reefs.
If you’re looking for a remote tropical paradise then look no further.
Wakatobi Resort is one of the most secluded and pristine destinations on the planet – and one of the most socially conscious and earth-friendly.
Located 1000 kilometres east of Bali, Indonesia, this oceanfront retreat is a favourite with discerning divers and snorkellers.
Surrounded by some of the most pristine and bio-diverse reefs on Earth, the resort’s famous House Reef has been named the world’s best shore dive. There are also over 40 additional sites visited by the resort’s fleet of custom dive boats.
Direct charter flights from Bali to the resort’s private airstrip offer easy access. The Wakatobi staff is devoted to providing the highest level of personalised services that include gourmet dining and 30 intimate oceanfront bungalows and pool villas. Services also include Private Dive/Snorkel Guides and Private Boat excursions, plus custom itineraries that can incorporate the Pelagian Dive Yacht – one of the world’s foremost luxury liveaboards.
The Wakatobi Collaborative Reef Conservation Program, which was established by resort founders 22 years ago, protects 20 kilometres of reef throughout the Wakatobi Islands. The program is considered one of the world’s most successful models for cooperative conservation. It is now one of the world’s largest privately-funded marine protected areas.
