After WWII, the USA set out to test the effects of atomic bombs on a large naval fleet. So a mock fleet of 95 vessels was relocated to Bikini, residents were transferred to other nearby islands, and then 23 separate detonations were tested between 1946-1958. This colossal operation brought this small part of Micronesia to the forefront of the global press. Around the same time, French fashion designer Louis Reard was looking for a name for his new, controversial, tiny swimsuit design and the ‘Bikini’ was launched, which was said at the time to be ‘atomic’ in its revolutionism for women’s fashion.
Bikini Island is part of the Marshall Islands within the greater region of Micronesia. It has been uninhabited since testing, and currently, the only way to access the area is via a liveaboard. Bikini Lagoon became the final resting place for some of the most significant warships in history. Bikini Atoll was opened for diving in 1996, allowing divers to experience some of the most historical and fantastic wreck diving in the world. Although the island has suffered from explosive testing, the marine ecosystem around the island is surprisingly healthy. The lack of human interference for the past 70 or so years has allowed marine life to flourish.
This custom-designed liveaboard was built with divers in mind to bring you the very best diving holiday experience possible. Previously, sailing the stunning dive sites of the Solomon Islands as M/V Taka, this steel-hulled vessel boasts an experienced boat crew, dive team and chefs to ensure the highest standards of service.
Pacific Master features 12 cabins allowing comfortable accommodation for up to 20 guests. These are categorized into one en-suite premium double cabin, five en-suite premium double/twin cabins, four standard single cabins and two standard twin cabins with shared bathroom facilities.
An incredibly spacious lounge and dining area is located on the main deck of the boat providing plenty of air-conditioned space to unwind and enjoy the on-board cuisine. An expansive dive deck leads perfectly to the dive platform, and also boasts a dedicated camera area for our photographer guests. Individual dive stations provide plenty of space and storage for your dive kit. This area also this area also provides individual toilets, freshwater showers and rinse tanks for your equipment.
If you prefer to relax in the sunshine and fresh air, the large sun deck comes complete with comfortable loungers to lie back and enjoy the views.
From May 2022, Pacific Master will join The Truk Master in Bikini Atoll; then, from September 2023 onwards she will take over sole duty on Bikini itineraries. She is a custom designed diving vessel with 12 air-conditioned cabins and can easily accommodate up to 16 guests on Bikini trips.
The vessel is set up with full tech diving facilities, including a deco-bar, in order to fulfil the requirements for diving in Bikini Atoll and Truk Lagoon.
The vessel is equipped for supporting the rebreather diver: there are booster pumps and stage tanks available on board. Supply of Oxygen and CO2 absorbent can be arranged, pre-booking of any rebreather supplies is essential to guarantee availability for you.
