Anilao proudly calls itself the birthplace of scuba diving in the Philippines, as the first dive centre in the country was opened here in 1966. Today Anilao’s main attraction is still scuba diving and snorkelling, with many Manila-based Philippinos taking the two-and-a-half-hour drive to the area to get their underwater fix.
Anilao is located on the Calumpan Peninsula, a landmass that separates Balayan Bay and Batangas Bay. The closest city is Batangas, and from here you can get a boat across the Verde Island Passage to another well known diving area; Puerto Galera.
If you like being on the beach, you won’t be disappointed! There are some stunning beaches in the area, from small secluded coves to dramatic rocky coastlines. A visit to the area would not be complete without going to Taal Volcano – the only geological structure of its kind in the world; an island, within a lake, within a volcano, within a lake, on an island!

Located on a 5,000 sqm coastal property, Buceo Anilao offers 23 air conditioned rooms ranging from spacious Sea View Deluxe Cabanas suitable for families with 2 double beds and 1 single bed; Sea View Superior Rooms with 1 double and 1 single bed and smaller Standard Rooms with 1 double bed suitable for single travelers.
Divers have access to over 50 excellent dive sites for macro, muck, wide angle coral gardens, a wreck and a critter-filled house reef. The onsite dive centre contains a spacious camera room plus an equipment room for all your dive gear. The use of traditional Filipino “Bangkas” (outrigger boats) which have been adapted for stability and durability to directly dock on the beachfront allows divers easy access to land and sea.
Non divers can enjoy the wonders of Anilao by snorkeling, visiting several tourist attractions on the Island of Luzon, enjoying the sea by kayak, or simply disconnecting and relaxing with a wonderful sunset or by practicing yoga on the spa terrace.
