Located on the main island of Viti Levu, halfway between Nadi and Suva, is Pacific Harbour – the Adventure Capital of Fiji, and an adrenaline junkie’s dream come true.
The town sits beside a long stretch of beautiful beachfront with expansive views across the water overlooking Beqa Island and Yanuca Island.
For divers, Pacific Harbour has become known as the launching point for some of the South Pacific’s best shark feeding dives and the reef dives in Beqa Lagoon.
Pacific Harbour has a tropical climate with an evident wet and dry season. The temperatures tend to be warm all year, although the humidity in the wet season can make the heat feel more acute.
Wet Season: December to April
There is a higher volume of rainfall over this period and combined with average temperatures of 30ºC the humidity is high too. This time of year brings the occasional tropical cyclone to the island. If you are planning on visiting Fiji during the wet season, keep in mind that January tends to be the hottest months and March has the highest rainfall.
Dry season: May to November
The rain starts to decrease from May, as temperatures drop and the humidity becomes less fierce. The average temperature is around 25ºC, although, hotter days may reach 30ºC. If you are planning a visit during the dry season, keep in mind that July has the lowest average daily temperature and rainfall.
Pacific Harbour is a great base to experience one of the most fantastic shark dives in the world. Diving takes place in the Beqa Passage, between Pacific Harbour and Beqa Island.
You will get up close with Blacktip and Whitetip Reef Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks and Silvertips, Tawny Nurse Sharks, Sicklefin Lemon Sharks, Bull Sharks and the occasional Tiger Shark. You may also see Giant Grouper, Maori Wrasse, Rainbow Runners, Giant Trevally, Java Morays, Eagle Rays and more.
The sea temperature in the wet season sits at around 29°C, wear a rashie and boardies to keep the UV off.
In the height of the dry season, the water temperature can get as low as 25°C, and a 3mm – 5mm wetsuit is advisable.
You can dive all year in Pacific Harbour, although visibility is slightly reduced during the rainy season. Most species of shark can be seen in either season, but keep in mind that November and December bring fewer bull sharks, and June to August usually have the highest tiger shark sightings.
Shark Reef Marine Reserve
This site is perhaps the most popular dive in Fiji and very likely the most phenomenal shark diving site in the world.
Declared a protected marine park along with its surrounding reefs, the marine populations in this area have had the opportunity to thrive. This is especially evident in the sheer amount of creatures that frequent the Beqa Passage.
Spend hours marvelling at the vast array of shark species and over 400 species of fish that visit this reserve throughout the year.
Culture
Spend some time basking in the warmth of the Fijian people as you take part in traditional ceremonies passed down from one generation to the next, visit local villages, and learn about ancient customs. Attending a kava ceremony is a must - usually performed when welcoming guests to a village, kava (the traditional national drink of Fiji) is poured from the ceremonial tanoa bowl into a coconut cup, called a 'bilo'. Enjoy the reenactment of stories long past through song and dance at a meke night, discover the secrets and benefits of traditionalistic herbal medicine or practice weaving coconut leaves into everyday practical items.

Whether you're a first-time kayaker or a master of the sport, Pacific Harbour offers gorgeous river and sea kayaking trips for everyone. See Fiji from a new perspective as you make your way past isolated villages in the highlands, luxuriant tropical forest in varying shades of green, and clear turquoise waters brimming with scintillating corals and lively marine creatures.
Zip Lining
Whizz through the air and take in the breath-taking views of the Wainadoi River valley and watch the dappled sunlight dancing across the forest floor on eight tremendous zip lines. Get your adrenaline pumping on the canopy tour with an English-speaking native guide and enjoy the extraordinary fauna, flora and local culture of the region.
Golf
Set against a backdrop of dense tropical rainforests and sparkling canals is the Pearl South Pacific Golf Course. Test your skills against deep bunkers and water hazards ranging from adjacent rivers to tranquil freshwater ponds covered in lilies. This characteristic 18-hole course offers golfing throughout the year. If you would prefer to spend some time practising your swing, make your way to the adjoining driving range, or relax at the clubhouse and take in the magnificent views of the ocean.
