Peninsular Malaysia consists of two federal territories: Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
East Malaysia is made up of two states, Sarawak on the island of Borneo and Sabah, as well as a federal territory: the island of Labuan.
Malaysia is a melting pot of multiculturalism and a breath-taking combination of the old and the new. Five-star hotels sitting meters away from ancient reefs, traditional wooden houses on stilts dwarfed by modern soaring skyscrapers, Malaysia has it all.
Monumental mountains pierce the skyline with their slopes, draped in luscious rain-forest, sweeping down to the floodplains below, alive with the copious amounts of forest life that dwells beneath the trees. The fresh, cool highlands gently give way to balmy, sandy beaches and steamy mangrove forests teeming with life. It’s a place where its astounding natural wonder is rivalled only by its colourful and diverse culture.
There is tropical weather all year with temperatures ranging between 21 – 32°C in the lowlands and 15 – 25°C in the higher elevations.
We recommend taking light, casual clothing. However please be aware that the
country’s culture and religion call for a more conservative dress code. Please take this into consideration if you are planning on participating in above-water activities.
The best diving destinations in Malaysia are located off the east coasts of Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo.
The east coast of Peninsular Malaysia offers easy diving and healthy reefs in the calm, coastal waters of the many islands. There is more advanced diving deeper offshore with drifts, pinnacles and even some shipwrecks to explore.
Sabah has been voted one of the world’s top diving locations. The island of Sipadan, off the east coast of Sabah, was endorsed as one of the top dive spots by world-renowned diving legend, Jacques Cousteau. From macro life to pelagics, wreck diving to wall diving, coral gardens teeming with a rich diversity of plants and fish, underwater caves with sleepy sharks and a cavern where turtles go to spend their last moments – the diversity will amaze you.
Layang Layang Island and Lankayan Island offer frontier diving if you’re looking for somewhere different. Lankayan has seasonal whale shark sightings, and Layang Layang offers some fabulous encounters with hammerheads and other pelagics.
