Overview

The Republic of the Philippines is an archipelago made up of thousands of islands and islets, stretching from the south of China to the tip of Borneo.

The majority of the volcanic islands have a landscape consisting of rugged mountains covered in luscious rainforest surrounded by low plains, sandy beaches, turquoise waters and brilliant coral reefs.

Lying along the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is susceptible to earthquakes, volcanic activity and typhoons. The positive outcome of these natural phenomenons is the considerable amount of nutrients that get deposited in the soil and the surrounding ocean. This has put the Philippines in the top 10 biologically mega-diverse countries in the world. New species of fauna and flora are continually being discovered.

Couple this breathtaking landscape with the fun-loving, happy-go-lucky people that call the Philippines home and you’re well on your way to an unforgettable holiday experience.

It’s more fun in the Philippines!

Snapshot

The islands of the Philippines are governed by a wet and a dry season that run at different times of the year. Temperatures year-round are between 25-32°C with high humidity during the south-west monsoon season which runs from May to November. Relative humidity is high throughout the year and some islands experience a more equatorial climate.

We recommend taking light, casual clothing. However, please be aware that the country’s culture and religion call for a more conservative dress code. Please consider this if you are planning on participating in above-water activities.

Diving

Overview

For a diver, the Philippines has just about everything one could ask for.
Diving in the Philippines offers a wide variety of marine environments to choose from. Dive on steep walls and offshore pinnacles, critter hunt and night dive on coastal reefs, wreck dive on a sunken Japanese fleet, be surrounded by pelagics or take the opportunity to swim alongside the world’s largest fish: the whale shark. Whatever your experience level – from novice to technical and rebreather divers – the Philippines has a suitable environment for you.

The Philippines is also the ultimate destination to consider a liveaboard dive vacation to Tuuataha Reef in the Sulu Sea or another of the many regions throughout the archipelago.
Liveaboard diving is a great way to experience the incredible natural and historical dive sites the region has to offer and will take you to each location at the optimum time of the year. Not only will you enjoy spectacular diving, but you will also have a chance to visit some remote reefs and meet their people. Liveaboards allow divers and snorkelers to experience the full range of what the Philippines has to offer.

Temperature

Average of 23°C in winter and 28°C in summer. 5mm-3mm recommended

Dive Season

Year-round diving – seasonal weather conditions vary between regions.

Dive Highlights

Tubbataha Reef is a National Marine Park and is not to be missed! See the thresher sharks of Malapascua, discover critters in Anilao and Dauin, admire huge sardine bait balls in Pescador Island.
