The Republic of Vanuatu is a chain of 83 tropical islands in the South-West Pacific. Due to its geographical proximity, it is only a 2.5 to 3.5-hour flight from the east coast of Australia, making it the perfect destination for a quick tropical escape.
The mountainous, volcanic islands have forged dramatic and naturally beautiful scenic wonders of palm-fringed beaches surrounded by crystal clear waters, coral reefs rich in marine life, rugged mountains rising above lush, tropical rainforests bursting with a magnificent array of flora and fauna, cascading waterfalls, clear blue lagoons and bubbling hot springs. On the islands of Tanna, Ambrym and Lopevi, volcanic activity can be observed.
Vanuatu is known for its laid-back island culture. Although there is a definite European influence from colonisation, many of Vanuatu’s islands have been inhabited for thousands of years. The oldest archaeological evidence dates back to 2,000 BC.
Get ready to experience the wonder of island life and discover what matters in Vanuatu.
The climate in Vanuatu is varied. Winter is the drier season, with temperatures averaging around 23°C during the day and 19°C overnight, between April to October. In the wetter summer season, temperatures average 28°C during the day and 22°C overnight, from November to March.
We recommend taking light, casual clothing. However, please be aware that the country’s culture and religion call for a more conservative dress code. Please consider this if you are planning on participating in above-water activities.
Diving in Vanuatu is varied and exciting, from the protected waters of the marine sanctuary to shallow reefs, deeper drop-offs and sunken wrecks, all in crystal clear waters teeming with fish life.
The landscape beneath the water mirrors that found above: mountainous terrain with plunging cliffs, caverns and overhangs, massive caves and intricate interconnecting underwater tunnels and gorges formed by frozen lava – and life abundant overall.
During World War II, the islands of Efate and Espiritu Santo were used as allied military bases. Espiritu Santo now offers divers the amazing SS President Coolidge, the largest, most easily accessible, recreational diving wreck in the world.
With a mix of world-famous wreck sites and calm and beautiful reef sites, you are sure to find something that interests you in Vanuatu.
