The Solomon Islands are as far from the maddening crowds as you can get and SANBIS RESORT offers the tranquility that comes with a serene island environment. The resort has six bungalows, generally limited to 12 guests at any one time. Each bungalow incorporates a modern ensuite bathroom with hot shower, has its own secluded beach and is totally separated from the others. In addition, "The Lodge” at Sanbis Resort is a separate, exclusive, self-contained complex located at the tip of the island 250m walk from the main Bar/Restaurant consisting of a main house and two private bungalows. To ensure tranquility, Sanbis Resort is a “KIDS FREE” haven (no children under 12 years of age). GIZO has some of the best and most exciting diving in the world from WWII wrecks to reefs that have some of the highest fish counts in the world. The area's remoteness and minimal human impact have caused the marine environment around Gizo to flourish, creating lush underwater coral gardens teaming with life. Its WWII history provides some exciting wreck dive sites (the Toa Maru being the most well-known) alongside these stunning reef walls and coral formations. These offer the perfect home for a whole range of sea-life, including rays, turtles and a multitude of colourful reef fish. Dives are done from boats with dive sites just a short journey from shore.

    Destination Information

    Gizo

Gizo is a tropical island of sparkling lagoons, crystal clear waters and palm-fringed beaches. You will find no shortage of activities departing from this stunning volcanic island. You can go snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, surfing, trekking and of course scuba diving.

Gizo’s history is an interesting one. The island was taken over by the central government after surrounding island tribes joined together to obliterate the Gizo’s native tribe, who had a reputation and history of barbaric headhunting practices. This then allowed land and property to be easily obtained by non-traditional landowners, subsequently leading to Gizo becoming the hub of the Western Province. During WWII this hub was occupied by Japanese forces to provide them with a base in the South Pacific, leading to several wrecks being located in this region.

    Sanbis Resort

Located approximately 7 minutes from the Gizo airstrip by boat, Sanbis Resort offers the premier accommodation in the country, with each bungalow having its own private beach and a terrace with a stunning view across the lagoon. The resort boasts the best-stocked bar in the west. Fantastic meals are prepared by the international Chef and served by the very friendly and trained staff.

Sitting amidst coastal trees and coconut palm is your Leaf House Villa with its veranda over a tranquil lagoon.
Opened in 2005, Sanbis Resort is for the holiday-maker who wants something unique.
Enjoy snorkelling in front of your private bungalow in 30-degree waters, join activities provided by Solomon Water sport located at the in-house dive centre or simply relax to your heart’s content.

    Dive Gizo

Dive Gizo offers exciting diving just minutes from Gizo. Opened in 1985 by Danny and Kerrie Kennedy, Dive Gizo maintains the standards of excellence in diving, while making every trip exciting and relaxing. Dive Gizo is the only PADI Dive Facility in Gizo and has on staff a full-time PADI Instructor. So whether you are ready to try diving for the first time, or a seasoned veteran, Dive Gizo will cater to your needs.

Gizo has some of the best and most exciting diving in the world from WWII wrecks to reefs that have some of the highest fish counts in the world. You will surely find something new and exciting under the surface. Each dive is led by a local trained and experienced guide, and in small groups of 4-6 people, no crowded boats, no tight time schedules!

The waters around Gizo are sheltered from the sea, and generally calm. For this reason, 7 metre covered ray boats are operated enabling individual needs and schedules to be catered for. A feature of the dive day is the picnic lunch provided in between dives on on one of Gizo’s gorgeous deserted islands, with time to snorkel, relax or explore the islands. For the non-diver, Dive Gizo also conducts many WWII tours, bird tours, snorkeling, surf drops, and village tours.
